A collection of Poems
Don't grow up too fast they say,
While shoving a spoon in my hand.
You can come to us they say,
as they shush me from crying.
Childhood is confusing,
should I grow or should I stay young?
Tell me mother because I don't know
how to play.
Tell me father because I don't know
how to be a child.
Oldest
"You're the oldest, set an example"
They say as if to say I misbehave.
how can I lead when I have no one?
to teach me.
Why must I be the only one who cannot make mistakes?
I don't want to be the oldest,
you ruined it for me.
Joy
School, books, and learning
Crayons and pencils.
School was safe for me
You turned it into competition
Now I no longer joy in education.
Lady
Walking tall with books on my head
Standing straight with heels too big
In a dress that covers all of me
Placing silverware beside each plate
If I don't, I won't be considered a lady.
If I want to be a "woman"
I'm told I must learn proper etiquette,
I must be elegant and graceful,
Sweet, intelligent, well-spoken, and beautiful.
I think I disappoint them,
I prefer bare feet touching grass,
I learned to be a lady by being kind.
if being a lady means being uncomfortable,
I don't think it's necessary.
